How we increased a client’s Instagram engagements from 19 to 9000

Increasing your Instagram engagement and reach can be challenging if you don’t know exactly who you should target and how to target them. But when you’ve done your research it’s definitely possible to make great improvements with a few simple strategies. Check out what we did for one of our clients!


Last summer we started working with Konect Aviation, a local aviation company that provides scenic helicopter and airplane tours around the Willamette Valley, Portland and the Oregon Coast as well as flight training and FBO services here in McMinnville, OR. At that time, we started managing their social media platforms including their Instagram account, @konect_aviation.


Up until this point the client had been managing their Instagram when they could, but like most small business owners, it wasn’t a priority when they’re wearing 50 different hats to keep the business running. At that time their account had about 130 followers averaging between 10 – 20 likes per photo.


After doing some research into their target audience on Instagram, following other travel/adventure accounts and engaging with their followers, I had a pretty good idea of which hashtags to use and the type of image that would grab the attention of their audience. After sifting through the many aerial photos our clients had, I chose one I knew would be an eye-catcher and posted it with appropriate hashtags to attract the attention of some bigger Instagram accounts that might feature us on their feeds.

The photo ended up taking off! We got 1201 impressions and 121 engagements. This was more than a 600% increase in engagement from previous photos. Our photo was then shared by @Portland and @TravelPortland which resulted in over 9000 engagements in total on that photo!

All of this resulted in increased followers on their Instagram account, but more importantly, an increase in inquiries for their services! The key to successfully posting on Instagram is knowing when to post, what to post, who to engage with and which hashtags to use. It takes some research into your target market but once you figure it out, the rewards are worth it!
