You Can Celebrate the Fourth of July Like the Big Companies

The Fourth of July is this week, do you have a tweet or Facebook post already scheduled? Big holidays, much like big events, give businesses a chance to celebrate with their followers. However, it is extremely easy to get lost in a sea of flags. We found two examples of big corporations standing out from  the rest.

  • What they did:The big surprise standout of this year’s Fourth of July campaigns so far is a British beer company. Revisiting the success of their Superbowl ad, they chose to celebrate a supremely American holiday in a very British way, by creating their own “Independence Eve” holiday. It features British and American celebrities asking the question at the heart of the holiday, “what if the British had won the war?” Beginning in late June, they started releasing the first of their 16 videos on YouTube and various social media platforms, then launched a website devoted to the campaign based off the #ifwewon hashtag.

    What you can do:
You might not be able to get a bunch of celebrities together, but you can still take a lot from Newcastle’s campaign. What stands out the most in this campaign is its humor. They are obviously trying to sell their product but are not taking themselves too seriously, thereby inviting viewers to laugh along with them. Making your audience laugh is a great way to become memorable, even with a fairly simple picture. After all, a bunch of animals wearing funny hats is going to stand out a lot more than a flag.
  • Lowe’s

    What they did:
Fireworks are a staple of Fourth of July festivities. Last year, the home improvement store took a non-traditional approach to the classic celebration on Vine. Showcasing products a customer could find in any given Lowe’s store, they recreated a fireworks display in a new way. What you can do:  Be creative! Embrace what makes your business different from the rest. A holiday or event like the Fourth of July is going to be full of the same images from everyone else. It is a perfect opportunity to highlight your own uniqueness.

Whether you choose to have a grand campaign like Newcastle or keep it to a simple post like Lowe’s, the key is to be memorable.
